At the heart of the challenge we face to preserve Washington's Victory Trail, is the Kings Iron Bridge which has stood at the crossroads of Bear Tavern Road and Jacobs Creek since the 1800's. The bridge, which has been nominated to be on the Historic Register for some time now, is also being threatened by a Mercer County project to re-align Bear Tavern Road from Ewing to Titusville. Mercer County plans to remove the bridge (relocate it to a park) and replace it with a new roadway span - picture 196 feet of cement bridge with additional 60+ foot retaining walls - which will forever change the footpath of the Continental Army's march to Trenton on the Victory Trail. This integral piece of the Victory Trail is the most natural, historic viewshed left on the trail - and will be lost forever without the rehabilitation of the Jacob's Creek Bridge. This area of the Victory Trail MUST be carefully preserved for future generations.
